Internet vs Library

Time: 3 mins

Internet:

Mary Boleyn was born at Blickling Hall, Norfolk and grew up around their residence in
Hever Castle, Kent.. She was a member of the famous aristocratic Boleyn family, which enjoyed considerable influence during the early part of the 16th century. She lives sometime between 1499 and 1508.

Time: 10 mins

Library: None

in this case, i would say that the internet is faster for research but this does’nt mean that it is better for research. If I was given enough time to research in the Librabry may be I have something  better than what I got in the internet.

Jad and Joy

Jad, you still don’t have an essay on internet censorship. Please answer the following questions in essay form and post it as an entry on this blog. Choose Censorship among the categories.

1. What is internet censorship?

2. Is there internet censorship in the Philippines?

3. Compare the Philippine situation with those in China, Singapore and Myanmar.

- oOo -

Joy, you missed a classroom exercise that was timed. Here’s what you’ll do:

Your topic is Mary Boleyn. You will have to find info about Mary Boleyn from the 1) school library and 2) the internet.

Part 1: Do all this within 10 minutes. Go to the library and find everything you can about Mary Boleyn using any book or books. Specifically, you are looking for info about who she was (historical significance), when she was born and when she died. DO NOT spend more than 10 minutes. If you find nothing in the library within 10 minutes, that’s okay. Just say you found nothing.

Part 2: Go online and search the Internet for Mary Boleyn. Again, time yourself in minutes and seconds and take note how long it took you to find out who she was, when she was born and when she died.

Post an entry on this blog (category: Library versus Internet). Give the information you found in the library AND how long it took you to find the info. Do the same with what you found on the web and remember to provide the time stamp too.

Amy Winehouse Goes to Rehab

Amy Winehouse was caught on camera doing cocaine. This disproves all her replies on denying the intake of drugs. Sadly, because of the video, which is now available for public viewing, she has gone to rehab even if her song “Rehab” suggests that she would never go. In my opinion these tapes should never have been shot. A celebrity is still a human being who has rights of their own and most paparazzi tend to forget that. They need respect like any other person who trots on this planet. Because of this unfortunate event her stardom may take a break or, since Hollywood is a place where anything can happen, even grow due to the publicity she’s getting. As they say any publicity is good publicity.

Electronic Grade Reporting System

Yes, I agree on this if it’s going to be in the UK. The United Kingdom just like the United States, and China both had already been at the peak of their economy mostly because of both computers and the web, it’s about time for them to use for educational purposes, and what better way to do that than doing PTCs in the web and make it a way for parents to check up on their child’s educational standing towards school.

This can’t be applied to the Philippines because as we can see that a large percentage of adults in our country either knows a little about the web and computers itself, and worse, doesn’t know anything anything about both at all. This is because most of them came from a poor family since the reign of the Japanese, and Marcos. Actually, internet is really fresh for the most of us, so I don’t think we Filipinos still have the capacity to carry this opportunity to let our parents to have the chance to get the chance to see our report cards on the web.

Internet Censorship

Internet censorship is the way where webmasters can control their sites in which they take out the over malicious contents in it or just hide it from the under aged users.

The senate is starting to proliferate the “malicious” contents on every site that are on the ISPs inside the Philippines, but most people contradict with it because they might take out the contents that are morally unacceptable such as government critical essays, adult-only-arts, or even the addicting MMORPGs.

China has laws on internet censorship, but these laws are not nationwide. Most pornographic sites are banned from a city, but sometimes the same site is allowed on another city.

In Singapore, internet censorship is taken to the fullest importance, because the populace is very conservative. Not only pornographic sites are banned, but also political, racial, and religious content are also not allowed in the ISPs of this country. This is done to avoid upsetting the delicate multi-racial society.

Last, in Myanmar, since its 2007 anti-government protest, the government completely shut down all its internet sites.

The Internet Versus The Library! *rant warnings*

The internet, with its ease of access, has proven to be a valuable research tool to every student. The vastness of the world wide web provides users with information on almost any topic. Some people , however, say that the internet has made our students dumb because it is just too easy. They say that the books are still the proper way of researching. We were given the task of testing the efficiency of the internet versus the old school way (library).

I had to know about Charles Lindbergh. I ran to my local library and searched for an encyclopedia with his name in it. I found one in 5 minutes, getting jabar in the process. I then searched for this man on the web. It took me 8 seconds with dry arm pits. There is no doubt which of the two is better.

It really is a pain that some people downplay the usefulness and the validity of the web. It is much faster, has more information and it is very convenient. Some people though criticize the internet saying that it makes the people dumb. Just because something is much faster doesn’t make the students incapable beings. It’s like saying that faster cars are bad because it makes the people dumb by taking the people to their destination faster (by not giving them more driving time).

The Internet is the future and there is no doubt about it. It will be the mother source of everything in the next years. Let’s just hope the sour-graping book club extremists realize this as well.

If I had a band… [final]

If I had a band in the year 2020, then it would be a blast! The internet would be really useful. We would use it to search for new songs or even new chords and guitar tricks. By then I would probable have my own portable mini-computer that could access the internet anytime I want. It could be as small as a watch.

But how do I use something that’s this small? Well, ‘touchable holograms’ of course! Pictures would appear just above the screen of the watch and I could use my finger to ‘click’ on buttons and actually go online. There would probably be a website on the internet where you could record your songs and upload it there. It’s like imageshack and photobucket, only you get to upload songs instead of pictures. That would really be helpful and cool.

Of course, all the basic internet stuff would still be there like online messaging and online games. In the online messaging part, me and my bandmates could talk to each other and play at the same time while uploading it on the website even when we’re at different places! Scientists are now working on these holograms, aka Dynamic Physical rendering as shown in this video: Link

If they could use electromagnetic waves to control things, then it might also be possible to communicate with them using GPRS, internet, and everything else used in connecting with other people like how we use our cellphones and computers. It would be like bringing a portable computer/recorder with you, just like an mp3 player, only smaller and lighter.

Speaking of mp3 players, I have one at home that can record audio files. Since physical rendering means copying an object’s form, then it would probably be able to record audio files as well! But not only just mp3 players.. You could even make it copy cellphones, cameras, game consoles, and other things as well! Isn’t it convenient to have something in your hand that could change into any object? That way, I wouldn’t need to go to a nearby computer anymore. I could easily contact and play with my bandmates anywhere.
Intel.com says that:

A football game, ice skating competition or other sporting event could be replicated in miniature on your coffee table. A movie could be recreated in your living room, and you could insert yourself into the role of one of the actors.”

If movies could be recreated in a person’s living room using dynamic physical rendering, then so can concerts. I could also make a replica of myself in the concert and play with my bandmates.

Scientists are still working in this project and I hope that it would turn out well.

emergency calls….(final)

Nowadays, the internet has been very useful in our everyday life. It has been our source of information. There are numerous instances were it is important to locate out of visual contact and take seriously with medical emergencies.

Combining all our knowledge in the internet may be in the future we can already invent some gadget, that if you call for emergency, the hospital will know already what kind of emergency that they will be dealing with. The gadget that I am talking about is like the following…

Complete safety, lightweight and portable

Our small transmitter provides total security and fast emergency response. Our easy to wear pendant is light and virtually unnoticeable.

  • Ultra-lightweight
  • Wearable on the wrist or around the neck

  • Completely waterproof
  • Pre-programmed, ready-to-use
  • Notifies our emergency monitoring center with the
    touch of a button
  • Activates “hands free” 2-way voice console
  • Enhanced speaker and voice equipment built right in

Your browser may not support display of this image. Your browser may not support display of this image.

Our system consists of only 2-pieces
Our console takes only seconds to set up, and it’s ready to use right out of the box. Our pendants are light-weight and easy to use.
We provide additional pendants at your request.

MEDICAL CONCERNS?
If there’s a medical concern we should know about, we’ll keep your records on file. When we receive your alert signal, this medical information is displayed immediately on our computer screens. We share your medical information with the dispatched response team. Rest assured, all medical records are completely confidential and used by our response specialists only in an emergency.

And for farther development, scientist or “computer mind master” can add up more, may be a camera which only works during emergency proposes, connects into the internet automatically. So that even if the patient is not conscious the gadget would alarm the hospital.

Nature Technofied(final)

Technology has been developing rapidly and it only gets better everyday. It is we, humans, who are responsible for this development. We do it with purpose and it is to make our lives simpler. Having very fast connections and great computers will surely give us only the best.

To begin with, I love nature. If ever I become a nature conservationist with everything accessible anywhere, anytime, it would be easier for me. It is for us humans to preserve our environment for future generations. With the help of the Internet, I will become a more efficient nature conservationist if I will be able to save their habitats through spreading awareness worldwide. Aside from the fact that killing or hunting threatens animals, it is the loss of habitat that wipes them out. In order to help solve this problem, there should be an unlimited access of Internet all over the country. Then, it will be so much easier because we can connect every government and non-government organizations that help protect the nature. I would like to invent a device that will be able to monitor human activities inside a certain habitat. The device can immediately spot a human and report it to the nearest nature or barangay officer. These officers should have GPS in their vehicles or cellphones, and go straight to the reported area.

We deposit waste everyday. It either goes to the trash can or worse, it goes to a place where it shouldn’t be. There are a lot of irresponsible people who just throw their candy wrappers outside of their houses. Now, I would like to make a system that would possibly track the product, consumer and the garbage place. Each product should have its own code. When the product is opened, the code will be activated and this will be tracked by the manufacturer. If the waste is not thrown away properly, the authority can now search for the consumer of the product. This can only be possible if we have a law. We can set a fine for the one who did the “crime” for this shall raise the awareness of responsibility of each member of the society.

It is also part of my plan to monitor every street of Antipolo, especially in the City Proper, if there are any smoke belching vehicles. I believe that these vehicles contribute a lot to pollution. I may check these vehicles and spot their plate numbers by installing hidden cameras. Immediately, this will be reported to the police department and arrest and revoke the licenses of these belching vehicles. In this way, I can help the environment better.

Our environment is rapidly degrading and we, humans, are the number one cause of it. It is now time for us to become more aware of our actions. This environmental awareness has been spread throughout the world and Internet has been a major factor for it.

Environment awareness is seen all over the Internet. The Greenpeace Organization is one of the mass user of the Internet for spreading their word. This worldwide organization increases the awareness of what is happening to our wildlife and environment. Internet has been a big help to lessen the world’s problem with the environment.

There are also some prominent people that advertises our advocacy. Al Gore is one. He made a documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth”, which depicts Climate Change. He was a Politician who ran for President in the United States. This made the documentary much more credible. Now, he is all over the Internet. In http://www.youtube.com, he has a lot of videos about his crusade.

Library vs. Internet: Eva Peron

In my research through the internet Eva Peron pursued a career as a stage, radio, and film actress. Eva was married in 1946 with Juan Peron. Her husband was elected as the president of Argentina in the year 1946 and she became the first lady. She became powerful because she was speaking in the behalf of the labor rights. She founded the nation’s first large scale of the female political party the female peronist party.

We we’re asked to research in the library last friday for the birthday and the date that the person have died. It took me 5 minutes to find the information I needed but I have only found the year. When I looked it up through the internet the whole date was their.
