Margot’s Personal Experience on the Core Rules of Netiquette

Rule 8: Respect Other People’s Privacy

I usually don’t sign out when I enter my mail and Friendster account. When I first went to a computer shop (this happened around 3 years ago), I checked and updated my Friendster account. I didn’t sign out from my account because that was what I was used to. Unfortunately for me, the next user was a prankster. I just realized it when I found things in my profile that I know I didn’t write. Good thing that person didn’t change my password so I was still able to rescue my account. After that incident, I made sure that I sign out from every site I enter, even if I’m just at home.

My Avatars and Screen Names (don’t laugh)

a) List down and/or insert the avatars, icons and screen names you are using (or have used), and in what sites.

Ragnarok MMORPG)
- zabumafoot09
- fistsofdoom
- Radiant
- zabumafoots
- zabumafeet
Guild Wars
- David Anipse
RF Online
- zabumafoot
Yahoo Messenger
- espina_sbcrizal

b) Give the reasons why you chose one particular avatar, icon or screen name.
I chose the name “zabumafoot” because I was desperate for a unique name and there it was in the television set on channel 25 “Net 25″ the show “Zaboomafoo” about stuffed puppets (it was a rip-off from sesame street). Sadly I couldn’t remember the name correctly so I ended-up with zabumafoot.

c) Check if your avatars or icons are free for public use, or if they might be subject to someone’s ownership or copyright.
The name Zabumafoot is not under the copyright of a network.

Netiquette

One experience that i had in the use of email and text is that i really can’t control what I’m supposed to be saying. because when i’m really angry at a person i tell things to him/her some bad things. So he/she ends up getting mad at me because of the things I have said. I should really control myself of saying stuff that i am not supposed to tell. Because I might end up growing without friends because of my attitude. But at the same time I also learned about the core rules of netiquette. You should really be calm first before talking to someone so that you would not hurt his/her feelings.

My Personal Exp. (core rules of netiquette)

I remembered my first experience with the core rules of netiquette. I was in the sixth grade back then and we were required to email our computer teacher our homework. I, being a newbie in the internet, didn’t know that when you email something in all caps is like shouting. I learned from that experience to be very careful about everything you send to people. Now that I know that it is wrong, I wouldn’t do it again. If someone else did it, I would tell him/her that it is wrong. The rule here is : be forgiving of other people’s mistakes.  (albion.com)

My Personal Experience (The Core Rules Of Netiquette)

The only time I remember seeing the rules of Netiquette being defiled was when I was online on GG-Client. GG-Client is a gaming client that networks gamers from almost every continent of the world to play some games. There was this one user on the client’s chat log that seemed to be trash talking and cursing at everyone. It was at first pretty annoying for everyone in the channel. After a while it became extremely offensive. I was pretty sure this person ruined the day of a lot of people. Such behavior is disgusting and I believe that this should not be tolerated. He threw out racist remarks and was cussing like crazy! It was a true eye opener for me as I saw how uncivilized some people could actually be.

My Personal Experience on Violating the “Core Rules of Netiquette”

My experience in the violation of netiquette may not be as exciting as the others’ examples but none the less is still in violation of the Core Rules of Netiquette.
Its 6pm and the sun has left a bad temperature while it is setting, I find myself chatting with an acquaintance. “Paano na yung project natin?”,
he says while I notice the load of homework that is piling-up and he reminds me of this. “ANO BA!” I answered with no consideration of the
person’s feelings, I just blew a fuse. He quickly said “sorry na.” and signed-out.
I broke the first core rule of netiquette, Remember The Human.

My Avatars, Icons and Screen Names

I don’t have any avatars or icons, although I have two screen names and they are:

· yey-yey.blogspot.com

· ana_01010@yahoo.com

I got the first one for my blog account. My cousin was watching a TV show and was screaming “YEY! YEY!” and I thought it was a nice blog name.

The other one is obviously for my email account. I tried putting up an ana10@yahoo.com account but since it was already used, yahoo suggested some usernames and that one popped up and I chose ana_01010 out of the other four.

Plagiarism is bad

Below is an excerpt for Wikipedia on the subject of Family Guy.

Family Guy was cancelled once in 2000 and again in 2002, but strong DVD sales and the large viewership of reruns on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim convinced FOX to resume the show in 2005. It is the first cancelled show to be resurrected based on DVD sales. [Wikipedia]
