My Experience with the Internet

Before, I do not care about my email. My accounts in the internet don’t matter to me because I don’t feel that if somebody knows my account, I have nothing to lose. Things have changed and I realized that it is very important to keep accounts secured.

RULE 2: ADHERE TO THE SAME STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR ONLINE
THAT YOU FOLLOW IN REAL LIFE

As far as I remember, these were my screen names:

-         Hiscopulus/hiscoplus

-         Viel11,viel03,viel17

-         Viels_17

-         Hollister11

-         Ginpom11

-         viellybelly

I had a lot of usernames that were informal.  I used ginpom11,viel03,viel11,hollister11 for Ragnarok Online. I chose these names because it sounds so cool(ginpom11,hollister11)! Perhaps the only thing that came in to my mind was the song by Radio Active Sago Project who composed the song Gin Pomelo. It sounded nice to me and I just made an account influenced by the song. I used an account for GG-client which I don’t want to mention.

Actually before I read these core rules of netiquette.I realized that I am too old for childish usernames and so I made new ones. I created hiscoplus for my Multiply and Youtube accounts. The new ones seem to me better.

Alias (Avatars, Icons and Screen Names)

I still laugh every time I see the names that I picked to represent me in various games and other programs that require different aliases. Somehow I still stick to these stupid names probably because I have grown accustomed to them. Here is a brief list of a few of the screen names that I/’ve use/used.

a.) Ragnarok MMORPG)
- zabumafoot09
- fistsofdoom
- Radiant
- zabumafoots
- zabumafeet
Guild Wars
- David Anipse
RF Online
- zabumafoot
Yahoo Messenger
- espina_sbcrizal
b.) I chose the name “zabumafoot” because I was desperate for a unique name and there it was in the television set on channel 25 “Net 25″ the show “Zoboomafoo” animals with two guys and a stuffed lemur as the hosts (it was a rip-off from animal planet fused with other kid-oriented shows). Sadly I quickly forgot the name of the show (it was just a commercial) so I ended up with zabumafoot.
c.) The name Zobomafoo is under the copyright of a network but zabumafoot is not.

My Internet Experience!

My internet experience is that i learned my way through chatting and seeing other people surfing. Of course surfing too and trying out different websites. I had fun surfing and meeting some people ,but I try to be careful. Mostly my friends in chatting are the people I know at school and relatives. I don’t think I’m breaking a lot of rules in the core rules of Netiquette because I’m not rude to other people and i try to be as friendly and social as possible. I think Netiqutte is a good way for people to know and what to do in the web. Maybe it’s hard to do now ,but maybe the time will come that it will be fully implemented. People who know this should do this now because it will be a start. Also when people who start using the internet should be first taught this so it will carry on in their attitudes.

GREAT! pictures that I use

These are the two pictures I use, as of now. I use them as my display image on Multiply, Friendster and Yahoo! Messenger.

I chose the You’re Okay picture because it really shows who I am and what I think about the world (everything being okay). Now that I think about it, I kinda nabbed it off my friend’s photo album in Multiply. I guess that makes me a grabber.

The football scene shows myself against C. Juaqui. It was kind of cool because it was a Wacky vs. Juaqui moment. I stole this from another friend’s photo album (strike 2!).

I usually use the name Wacky or wackyistheman as my screen names for stuff. CoolioRAWR

My experience with Netiquette

Rule 2: Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life

My most reoccurring experience is when I would copy information from sites for my school work and projects. I never really had a problem with it even if I knew it was wrong because the author’s wouldn’t know about this anyway. Besides, putting their names at the end of my paper sometimes is a hassle, so I just don’t do it.

It only happened recently when I realized how important it is to the authors to actually put their names in your paper. This can be a sign of respect for the authors. It is also important because the teacher may want to look or know where you got your information because they may be interested or curious about where you got your information.

Copying other’s work is called plagiarism. The law forbids this and it also applies online.

My Avatars, Icons and Screen Names

a) The following are my screen names :
chocogurl007 -blogspot

jirah1991 - yahoo mail

summerbummer - gmail

JiRaH1991 - xanga

b) My first email is jirah1991@yahoo.com. I chose jirah1991 because my name is Jirah and I was born in the year 1991. The same reason for JiRaH1991 in xanga.com except I just changed some stuff. I just wanted to have my screen names to somehow vary.

c) I don’t know if it’s copyrighted but one of my screen names, summerbummer, is an episode of a show.

I Have Seen A Donkey Online

The only time I remember seeing the rules of Netiquette being defiled (Rule 1 particularly) was when I was online on GG-Client. GG-Client is a networking application that allows games to be played online via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). There was a user who was cursing a lot and slinging offensive words at random to everyone. It was, at first, pretty annoying for everyone in the channel. After a while though, it became extremely offensive. I was pretty sure this person ruined the day of a lot of people. Such behavior is disgusting and I believe that this should not be tolerated. He threw out racist remarks and was cussing like crazy! It was a true eye opener for me as I saw how uncivilized some people could actually be. Also, the experience taught me that some people go online where everyone else is human yet not acknowledge the presence or the feelings of other humans.

Margot’s Avatars, Icons and Screen Names

My avatars, icons and screen names:

  • winterinnarnia(yahoo avatars)
  • rockstar gurl(yahoo avatars)
  • kenshinshuaii(friendster)
  • soccerbabe(hedcen.com, blogspot)
  • firedragon(yahoo360 blog)

“Soccerbabe” is the name of my lanyard. Justine called me
soccerbabe ever since he saw me wearing the lanyard. A lot of people started calling me soccerbabe as well so I just adopted the name.

For my avatars, I just use the name to describe the avatar I make depending on my mood at that time.

My avatars in yahoo can only be used by me. The icons/avatars I use in friendster are subject to anyone’s use.

An Online Faux Pas

My experience in the violation of netiquette may not be as exciting as the others’ examples but none the less is still in violation of netiquette.
Its 6pm and the sun left a bad temperature during the sunset and I find myself chatting with an acquaintance. “Paano na yung project natin?”,
he says while I notice the load of homework that is piling-up and he reminds me of this. It was very hot and the heat plus the pile of work irritated me so much, “ANO BA!” I answered with no consideration of the
person’s feelings, I just blew a fuse. He quickly said “sorry na.” and signed-out.
I broke the first core rule of netiquette, Remember The Human, wherein we should remember that the people you chat or converse on the net with are human and have feelings as well. I hope that some silly faux pas like this won’t happen to me again.
