Amy Winehouse, a British singer, has checked into rehab. A private video of her smoking cocaine was posted on different websites. If the government insists on using the video against her, the strongest defense she can give is to claim her right of privacy. She cannot deny that it was her on the video because the video was clear enough for her to be recognized. I think her claim of privacy rights should not be accepted. That video is evidence, whether private or not. I look at it this way. It’s evident to everyone that you did something wrong. Pleading for your privacy wouldn’t do you any good because the evidence is already out. For example, there is a private video of a murder scene. It is shown out in public and the murderer is arrested. Even if the murderer claims his right of privacy, it’s still proven that he’s guilty. That’s my analogy.

The advancement of the technology has brought a lot of damage to the private lives of these celebrities. This is the price they pay for their fame and wealth. Yes, her privacy was violated but the truth about her was seen because of that. She knows she’s a celebrity and paparazzi are all over her. She should know better than allowing anyone to take a private video of her taking drugs.
