The internet, with its ease of access, has proven to be a valuable research tool to every student. The vastness of the world wide web provides users with information on almost any topic. Some people , however, say that the internet has made our students dumb because it is just too easy. They say that the books are still the proper way of researching. We were given the task of testing the efficiency of the internet versus the old school way (library).

I had to know about Charles Lindbergh. I ran to my local library and searched for an encyclopedia with his name in it. I found one in 5 minutes, getting jabar in the process. I then searched for this man on the web. It took me 8 seconds with dry arm pits. There is no doubt which of the two is better.

It really is a pain that some people downplay the usefulness and the validity of the web. It is much faster, has more information and it is very convenient. Some people though criticize the internet saying that it makes the people dumb. Just because something is much faster doesn’t make the students incapable beings. It’s like saying that faster cars are bad because it makes the people dumb by taking the people to their destination faster (by not giving them more driving time).

The Internet is the future and there is no doubt about it. It will be the mother source of everything in the next years. Let’s just hope the sour-graping book club extremists realize this as well.
