Library vs. Internet: Eva Peron

In my research through the internet Eva Peron pursued a career as a stage, radio, and film actress. Eva was married in 1946 with Juan Peron. Her husband was elected as the president of Argentina in the year 1946 and she became the first lady. She became powerful because she was speaking in the behalf of the labor rights. She founded the nation’s first large scale of the female political party the female peronist party.

We we’re asked to research in the library last friday for the birthday and the date that the person have died. It took me 5 minutes to find the information I needed but I have only found the year. When I looked it up through the internet the whole date was their.

A Stranger is Watching

The author of this book is Mary Higgins Clark. It took me a few seconds to type and search on google.com. I couldn’t find the author of the book in our library mainly because looking for an author of a book in the encyclopedias is an unknown task for me. I probably could not find it in the library because it just wasn’t there or I didn’t have the know how to look for a book’s title in the encyclopedia. Thus it is easier to use a search engine then to use the encyclopedia because you’ll need little knowledge to use Google making it the better way to go.

Somwhere in time:MOVIE

It took me only 2 minutes to find information about the movie titled “Somewhere in Time”. It was directed by Jeannot Szwarc. Christopher Reeve was the main star in this movie. It was also a novel that was made into a movie. The year the movie was premiered was in 1980.

The movie is about a young writer Richard Collier is met on the opening night of his first play by an old lady who begs him to “Come back to me”. Mystified, he tries to find out about her, and learns that she is a famous stage actress from the early 1900s, Elise McKenna. Becoming more and more obsessed with her, he manages, by self hypnosis, to travel back in time where he meets her. They fall in love, a matching that is not appreciated by her manager.

I did not did not find this movie in the library. I think the internet is better for research when it comes to movies.

Tai-Pan

Last January 18, 2008, I was asked to find out who wrote this novel in the library. I did not understand the instructions clearly and so I did not found anything. Today(Jan. 21,2008), I searched for the novel in the internet and got the results. It was written by James Clavell and was published in 1966. It took me 30 seconds because it was the 3rd link after searching for the word “Tai-Pan”.

The 39 Steps

I did not find any information about this movie in the library. Maybe it is because I did not look at the index. I am slapping myself mentally right now. Lulz <3

Anyway, I used google, and it did not even took me more than a minute before I could find the right information (It took me twelve seconds flat). The movie “The 39 Steps” was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and it was released on August 1, 1935. I guess I was just used with google that I almost forgot how to use encyclopedias properly.. :(

Postcards From the Edge

It took me 4 mins to look for this in the web and I saw it on wikipedia… Unlike when I was on the library… I didn’t have any results in within 15 mins.

Postcards from the Edge is a semi-autobiographical novel written by Carrie Fisher, first published in 1987. For more info visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postcards_from_the_Edge

Library vs. Internet - Randolph Hearst

Randolph Hearst was born on Apr. 29, 1863 and died on Aug. 14, 1951. It took me around four minutes to find this information in the library. I searched the internet and found the information in less than 10 seconds. Using the internet might be more convenient but it makes the people too dependent on the internet. Also, some people don’t know how to use the library anymore.

Ernesto Guevara

Do you know Ernesto Guevara?

It took me five minutes to learn that Ernesto is actually, Che Guevara and that he was born in 1928 and died in 1967. On the other hand, a google search of “Ernesto Guevara” also told me the same things as the encyclopedia but added that he was born in June 14, 1928 and died in October 9, 1967. This search took me 0.12 seconds.

Library vs. Internet: Diana Spencer

I didn’t find anything about Diana Spencer in the library. I don’t know who she is until I searched her name in Google. It turns out that Diana Spencer is the late Princess Diana. I guess that’s why people would really just search in the internet. They’ll find the answers in a short time. It took me less than 1 minute to find a nice website that has the information that I need. While in the library, I used up the whole 15 minutes. When people don’t know who they are searching for, that’s going to be hard when you’re going to go to the library. When you’re using the internet, it’s easier. Using the internet doesn’t make one lazy. If we had all the time in the world, we could go to the library and all. Unfortunately, we don’t have all the time in the world. That’s one more reason why people use the internet more.

Here’s the information I needed:
